Global Services Summit to be held in October

Government leaders from around the world are expected to attend with the EU Trade Commissioner confirming participation.

European Union Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton, and former United States Trade Representatives Ambassador Charlene Barshefsky and Ambassador Mickey Kantor have confirmed their participation in the Global Services Summit: Services Drive the Global Economy and Create Jobs, to be held on October 13-14, 2009, in Washington, DC.

"We are honored to be joined by these world-known leaders," said Bob Vastine, President of the Coalition of Service Industries (CSI). "Their participation in this event demonstrates the importance of services in the world economy, and its tremendous contribution to global growth."

Commissioner Ashton and Ambassadors Barshefsky and Kantor will be joined at the Summit by U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, WTO Director General Pascal Lamy, Australian Trade Minister Simon Crean, and other leaders from around the world.

The Summit will bring together world leaders from government, the private sector, international organizations, think tanks and academia to debate and explore strategies that will expand services trade and investment to the benefit of developed and developing countries alike.

The Global Services Summit is being organized by CSI in partnership with the Australian Services Roundtable, the Canadian Services Coalition, the European Services Forum, the Hong Kong Coalition of Service Industries, International Financial Services London, the Japan Services Network/Keidanren, the Trinidad & Tobago Coalition of Service Industries, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
